How do PLLA threads work?

Polylactic acid (PLLA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body, which completely dissolves in the tissue after a certain period of time. The idea of using PLLA threads in aesthetic procedures was born in Korea and quickly gained popularity around the world. The procedure involves inserting PLLA threads under the skin (into selected areas) using a very thin needle. After insertion, the needle is removed and a dressing is placed on the skin. The applied treatment produces a specific scaffold around which the body begins the process of neo-collagenesis (production of new collagen fibers), stimulation of fibroblasts for increased synthesis of elastin and synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
